House Of Trix - Home To Inspiration

Today I have mostly been thinking about immersion. The reason we enjoy our sofa comas, the reason a good book can while away a 12 hour plane journey and the same reason I frequently stay awake till the early hours of the morning killing people from all over the world in a variety of different ways and online environments.

Why become obsessed with engaging with some alternate reality...someone elses vision from their creative headspace?...The answer to me is clear. You only need to watch Eastenders once to know that the one thing that connects us all as people (or at least as English people) is unbridled cynicism and lack of interest in everyday routine. In short, we didn't grow up to become the rockstars, astronaughts and cowboys that our imaginations promised us. I don't hunt dinosaurs for a living like I planned but I can slap a disc into my playstation 3,  load TUROK and away we go i'm dismembering a t-rex before you can say "wowyoureallyareanerdarntya".

Online, we can be anything from fighter pilots to tomb raiders and fulfill our childhood dreams of an exciting career and temporarily forget that we work in an office or a factory or indeed a booth. 

Interactive online expereinces such as second life are becoming everyday. Most people I know use face book and network with their friends electronically and from behind avatars and funny status comments. 

Now I don't actually see this as such a bad thing becasue any connection can only be good but obviously when we use technology to immerse ourselves in second lives - do we risk forgetting about our actual ones?...films such as vanilla sky reflect the appeal of immersion to start again or explore all the new things you never dared to dream of. 

 Total Recall predicted  we would all holiday in our heads in the future and things are moving that way already. So I say hoorah for immersion and boo to the naysayers - play games, watch movies and dream of being somewhere else as often as possible becasue the fact is your life can only be improved by imagination so why the hell not enjoy it.

 Being able to get away from it all and walk in someone elses mochisans allows us the opportunity to gain perspective. By walking away from our  lives for a short while, to captain a hundred man army or race an F1 car allows us to stop being so introspective and relax our consciousness - which in turn makes us happier people.  

 Happy people = good. So go an immerse yourself in your favorite comic book, song, funny website or alternate reality - then come back and make me a brew - we'll talk about it. I'll bring the biscuits.
